Become Part of the Herd
Kids Rein thrives on the unwavering dedication of our incredible community of volunteers. Without a volunteer’s passion and commitment, our program simply wouldn't exist. We're always looking for volunteers with a wide range of talents to join our team. Whether you’re experienced or just starting out, there’s a role for you here!
Lesson Team: The magic of our lesson team comes from consistency. We strive to keep the same team—an instructor, sidewalker(s), leader, and child—together for the entire session, building a strong and supportive bond. We encourage volunteers to commit to at least one lesson per week to maintain this continuity. Of course, if something urgent comes up, we have substitute volunteers ready to step in.
Sidewalkers: As a sidewalker, you’ll play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and comfort of our riders. Walking beside the horse, you’ll help support the rider’s balance, offering a steady hand when needed. Your role is vital in building the rider’s confidence and trust. To be a sidewalker, you need to be in good physical condition and able to walk briskly for about 30 minutes.
Horse Lead: Leaders are the guiding force behind our horses. You’ll be responsible for controlling the horse during grooming, ground, and mounted lessons. This role is all about finding the balance between guiding the horse and empowering the rider to take the reins. Leaders should be 16 or older, comfortable around horses, and able to stay calm in any situation. You’ll start by side walking for at least six lessons to get a feel for our program before moving on to Leader Training.
Barn Chores: If you enjoy the hustle and bustle of barn life, this is the spot for you. Our Stable Hands are essential in keeping everything running smoothly, from grooming our horses to cleaning stalls and filling water troughs.
Farm Chores: Got a knack for fixing things or working outdoors? Our Farm Hands tackle various projects around the farm. Whether you have skills in carpentry, electrical work, HVAC, welding, or landscaping, your expertise will be put to good use in maintaining and improving our beautiful space.
Join us in making a difference, one lesson, one chore, one smile at a time!
